The STRONG-UR project, an EU-funded initiative under Horizon Europe, focuses on addressing diseases that predominantly affect men, such as Urethral Stricture Disease (USD).
This condition is more common in men due to anatomical differences, including the greater length of the male urethra, and it significantly impacts physical health, quality of life, and treatment costs.
While the project initially targets male urethral diseases, the research has broader potential, including applications for the treatment of female urethral conditions and other tubular organs.

As part of Horizon Europe’s commitment to gender equality, STRONG-UR integrates this principle across its activities, aiming to eliminate gender and socio-economic inequalities in research and innovation.
This is reflected in the project’s gender-balanced team and practices that ensure gender equality is respected throughout all stages of the project.
By addressing male urethral reconstruction challenges, STRONG-UR is laying the foundation for future innovations that can benefit all individuals affected by urethral diseases, regardless of gender.
