eUROGEN webinar: Tissue engineering as applied to the urinary tract – is it a reality?

STRONG-UR will be presented during the webinar “Tissue engineering as applied to the urinary tract – is it a reality?” by Dr. Christopher Chapple. The is organised by the ERN eUROGEN.

The term ‘tissue engineering’ arouses enormous interest by virtue of the futuristic aspirations implied by the title.  In this presentation, Prof Chapple will review the evidence base relating to the contemporary application of tissue engineering relating to the urinary tract with particular reference to urethral stricture surgery and sphincteric weakness in women.

Whilst enormous progress has been made in the techniques available in recent years. Unfortunately, the limiting factors affecting the application of any such technology is our poor understanding of the tissue components, cellular interactions and their particular functional innervation. The participant in this webinar will receive an update on this important subject and recognise the limiting factors that influence the application of tissue engineering to the urinary tract.
