Advancing dialogue on bioprinting and translation

STRONG-UR recently took part in the NEOLIVER workshop, organised by AMIRES, which brought together several EU-funded initiatives working on bioprinting and regenerative medicine. Three takeaways emerged from the workshop:
  • The importance of integrating patients’ perspectives throughout all phases of a project.
  • The value of early dialogue between researchers, clinicians and regulatory bodies to support translation.
  • The growing role of harmonised standards in facilitating the clinical adoption of bioprinting technologies.

Panel discussion with STRONG-UR, NEOLIVER, KeratOPrinter, micro2MACRO, LUMINATE.

Key discussion themes

Discussions covered recent scientific advances in bioprinting with a strong emphasis on clinical and translational relevance. Attention was given to regulatory requirements in both Europe and the United States, as well as to standardisation efforts presented by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission. The event provided a valuable platform for exchange between projects working at the interface of advanced manufacturing, biomedical research and clinical translation. Alongside NEOLIVER, the workshop gathered representatives from other EU bioprinting initiatives, including KeratOPrinter, micro2MACRO and ‌LUMINATE. Within a dedicated panel discussion, participants were able to share experiences, discuss common challenges and explore opportunities for close collaboration, including the potential development of a project cluster to strengthen alignment across initiatives. Clinical perspectives, including those from medical specialists working in related fields, further enriched the exchange.
